What do weddings, baptisms, networking events, funerals, job interviews, holiday parties, banquets, and baby and bridal showers have in common? It is always challenging to determine what to wear to them. It depends on many factors what you wear to these events, such as the location, the formality of the invitation, the weather, and often what everyone else is wearing. There are, however, some fundamental sartorial guidelines to consider. (Also, remember that most dress code "rules" are more like guidelines, with a few exceptions, such as avoiding wearing white to a wedding.) 

Religious Ceremony Like Baptism, Bar Mitzvah, etc. 

Rely on a lovely day dress, perhaps in a petal or floral pattern, or a suit with feminine underpinnings and accents. Avoid low-cut, short, and clingy garments, and bring a light sweater, blazer, or trim jacket to cover sleeveless styles. If there is no time to change between the ceremony and reception, wear a cocktail dress or dressy pants along with a jacket or shawl to cover up in the temple or church. 

Wedding with Formal Attire or Charity Gala 

Consider tuxedos, shimmering fabrics, and intricate accents. While etiquette rules regarding dress length are becoming more relaxed, tea- or floor-length gowns are your best option. The most sophisticated attire is a column or A-line dress, but you could also wear a well-tailored, stylish, formal suit. Now is the time to enhance your appearance with exquisite jewellery, fabulous shoes, and excellent hair. 

Cocktail party, engagement party, and the vast majority of weddings 

Although not as formal as a black-tie affair, "cocktail attire" is likely to be the dress code for one of these relatively formal events. Choose a cocktail dress; you cannot go wrong with a little black dress or a pastel or jewel-toned one. You can also add formal separates to your ensemble. 

These days, a cocktail party can range from a formal society event to a low-key gathering of friends over canapés. Cocktail parties are typically dressy-casual, so you can't go wrong with a top with special details, a skirt or tailored trousers, and heels or fancy flats, according to fashion stylist Joseph Williamson. Avoid too-casual fabrics such as chino, jersey, and denim. Additionally, avoid extremely short designs. To determine whether a hemline is appropriate, stand with your hands at your sides; the hem should not be higher than the ends of your fingers. 

Event involving a holiday party, a dinner party, or "festive attire" 

These events allow you to experiment with glitter and color. Therefore, almost anything is acceptable as long as it is appropriate for the venue and occasion. Have fun with an eye-catching necklace or pair of earrings. Then, wear it with a vibrant dress, a sleek jumpsuit, or a festive top with a fun midi skirt or palazzo trousers. Feathers, tassels, lace, sequins, beading, ribbons, and tassels are bonus points for textured embellishments.
